Soul Sister is a daughter of Frankel who won the Oaks at Epsom Downs by 1 3/4 lengths. This victory, on June 2nd 2023, was the final Classic win of Frankie Dettori's career.
This painstakingly produced pencil drawing depicts the Gosden trained bay filly approaching the winning line at Epsom Downs. Brett chose to portray Soul Sister in the suspension phase of her gallop, as he often does with his racehorse pictures. This is because he feels that this particular phase is so full of movement - a momentary glide through the air, before the horse explodes into action on the turf again.
Brett has gone to great lengths to ensure that there is no weakness in the artistic execution of this laborious piece. With such a famous and recognisable jockey on board, the artist has had to ensure a true likeness for Frankie Dettori, even though his face would hardly be seen on a racehorse travelling at such speed.
Soul Sister is a beautiful racehorse who lends herself perfectly to creating an impressive piece of art. This drawing measures 3 x 2ft (75 x 60cm) and took Brett three months to complete.
Brett has produced a brief video detailing the production of this gorgeous piece of racehorse art. This can be viewed exclusively on his Instagram account.
